I love when I put on a skirt that shows off my legs and my skin looks and feels silky smooth. I especially love when my hubby constantly compliments me on how soft they are as well! It took me some time to learn how to shave my legs for the smoothest skin possible and now I will be sharing with you my entire process of how to shave your legs perfectly in 5 easy steps!
Step 1: Exfoliate
Before even stepping into the shower you must exfoliate your legs. Exfoliating gets rid of dead skin cells which can clog your razor and prevent a smooth even shave. It also doesn’t look so nice when you have shaved legs and crocodile scales! So make sure you exfoliate before you shave your legs.
To begin the exfoliating process warm your washcloth in hot water and place it on your legs to soften the hair and skin. You don’t want your legs to be sopping wet, just damp. Allow the steam from the washcloth to open up your pores and soften your skin. Next, apply your favorite scrub massaging up and down all over your legs for about 1-2 minutes and rinse clean.
Make sure you do this step before getting into the shower. Excess water can interfere with your exfoliating product by melting it (especially if using a sugar or salt scrub).
Step 2: Shave cream please!
Use shave cream prior to shaving your legs. I know isn’t this tip obvious, but I’ve seen people use anything from conditioner (Guilty! Desperate times come for desperate measures!), oil, and even soap! Conditioner although it works okay, can leave your razor icky as well as itchy legs with the potential to clog your pores. If you ever have to resort to conditioner be sure to lather heavily with soap afterwards to remove the residue and replace your blade immediately. Using oil will ruin your blade and make cleaning your tub a nightmare. Soap…. Prepare for nicks and cuts!
Stock up on shave cream so you’ll never have to resort to using the latter. Shave cream helps the razor glide smoothly across your skin to prevent nicks and cuts.
Step 3: Shave your legs with a fresh razor
Always shave with a fresh razor. You can use your razor for about 5-6 shaves before you need to replace your blade. I especially love the Gillette Venus Embrace 5 blade razor. This razor gives me the closest shave ever and I never end up with nicks or cuts. I recommend using a blade with the bare minimum of 4 blades for the smoothest shave. Always shave against the direction of hair growth. For example, you will glide the razor up towards your knee. Also, rinse your blade after a few strokes to remove hair and shave cream. Once you’re done rub your hands across your legs to feel for any spots that may still have hair and repeat if necessary.
Step 4: Let’s talk thighs
I normally skip my thighs during the cooler months since the hair is very fine, but in the summer or
A note about using depilatory cream: Always do a patch test before using depilatory cream to prevent irritation or injury and follow the instructions accordingly. I normally leave the cream on for no longer than 8 minutes, but the time can vary.
Step 5: Moisturize those assets
After all that work, treat your baby soft legs with some love and moisturize with your favorite lotion, cream, or oil. Your legs will thank you for it!
