My Monthly Cleaning Routine

July 9, 2023

Having a monthly cleaning routine will make it easier to keep your home nice and tidy. It also works to keep your appliances running smoothly which in turn will help them last longer.

My typical monthly cleaning schedule

I clean our stove, dishwasher, washer, dryer, sofa cover, window treatments, comforters, baseboards and rugs. Whew! That seems like a ton, but I don’t do everything all in one day. I split the tasks up over a course of 4-5 days to get everything done. I try to make it a priority to finish at least 2 tasks per day to keep it from becoming overwhelming. Doing your task this way is more efficient than trying to do it all at once. Here’s a typical schedule of how I plan out my monthly cleaning schedule.

Day 1: Clean dishwasher, washing machine and dryer.

Day 2: Shampoo rugs & launder sofa cover.

Day 3: Launder all curtains and comforters.

Day 4: Clean stove and baseboards.

Below are some useful DIY cleaning recipes that I used to help with my monthly tasks.

Herbal Vinegar Spray

  • 32 oz white vinegar
  • 3-4 sprigs of rosemary
  • 2-3 lemon peels

Put all the ingredients in a glass jar and allow it to brew for at least 2 weeks. Dilute at a ratio of 1 part vinegar solution to 3 parts plain water.

DIY Carpet Cleaning Solution

  • 2 TBSP liquid Tide laundry detergent
  • 1/4 cup LA’s Totally Awesome cleaner or Mean Green cleaner (I used this in mine)
  • 1 scoop of Oxi-Clean (3 tbsp)
  • 1 tsp downy fabric softener (optional) I didn’t use this in mine.
  • 1 gallon of hot water

Add solution as usual to carpet cleaner. Usually at a ratio of one gallon of water to 1/4 cup of the DIY carpet cleaner solution. I just filled mine to the water line and then added the solution to the cleaner line.
