How to live a much happier life

March 18, 2019

In today’s entry, I want to elaborate on how to live a happier life. I never talk about anything personal here on my blog, but I think what I’m about to mention is necessary.  My mother passed away last year in September and I really think she didn’t experience all the happiness life has to offer. As I reflected on how she lived her life I decided to make some changes within myself so that I don’t make the same mistakes. As I gradually made these changes I noticed a shift in my life and the way that I viewed the world overall. I believe as a woman, being happy also coincides with living a feminine lifestyle, so here are some ways I truly believe you can start living a much happier life.

Be present

Try practicing living in the moment. Instead of worrying about what’s to come in the next coming week or month, take the time to enjoy today. Enjoy the warmth of the sunlight, the smell of fresh flowers, the joy of being with your loved ones at this present moment. We never know what’s to come tomorrow so enjoy your time in the present while you have it.

Practice gratitude

Instead of focusing on what you don’t have, be thankful for the things that you do have. You have the ability to read, (obviously if you’re reading this), as well as access to the internet. Be thankful for the food in your belly, the vehicle you own, the job that you work. Your parents, children, and loved ones. There are many others that have less than what you have right now so stop comparing your life to others that seem like they have more. Have gratitude for all the love, support, and things that you have in this present moment.

Treat yourself

I often hold on to money as a security blanket for the unexpected. Although it’s good to be prepared I started to let go and allow myself to indulge in things that I desire more. So that’s what I am saying to you. “Life is short. Buy the lipstick” That means don’t be afraid to treat yourself to something nice. Buy that dress or handbag you’ve been eyeing for weeks. Take the first steps to go on that trip you’ve always dreamed of. You deserve to be happy and if going on a nice vacation or owning the latest Kate Spade bag makes you feel good then do it with no guilt and no regrets!

Let go of negative people and situations

Earlier I mentioned that I noticed a shift in my life as I gradually made changes to living a happier lifestyle. One of the major shifts that I noticed was the negative people in my life in a way disconnected. At first, I wanted to try to reach out and keep these people around (especially when they happen to be family), but for what? Ever heard the saying “misery loves company”? When you change your lifestyle to a more positive one you are now on a different wavelength than those that choose to be negative and miserable. Let the shift happen and keep pressing forward. A happy positive lifestyle has no room for negativity.

Surround yourself with your favorite things

Do you have a favorite space in your home? Mine is my bedroom. It’s decorated in my favorite colors and with my favorites things (handbags, shoes, flowers, etc.). Doing this will keep you in a happier state. Whenever you are in your favorite space if it’s decorated with the things you love you will usually be in better spirits while being there. You can also try to take some of those favorite things with you. I normally wear my favorite color all the time, and I have a pink cherry blossom scented tree air freshener in my car. Little details like that make me happy. Try it and watch how your mood can instantly shift when you’re surrounded by your favorite things.

Take better care of your health

When you are healthy you just feel good. Its never too late to make changes to living a healthier lifestyle. I decided to go alkaline vegan when my mother got sick to help motivate her to do the same. You don’t have to go as extreme as I did, but you can make gradual changes to your diet and lifestyle that will lead you to a much healthier you. Drink more water, consume more fruits and veggies, go for a jog, take a yoga class, etc.

Reduce stress

This coincides with the tip above. Taking better care of yourself can reduce stress leading to a happier and healthier you!

Smile

Practice smiling more. It cost nothing to give a smile. It releases endorphins which are those feel-good hormones. Smiling is also contagious. Anytime I’ve smiled at a complete stranger they usually always smile back and it just makes me feel good. Try it and see for yourself!

Love on yourself

Practice self-love. Many of us (especially women) tend to self criticize a lot. We can be our own worst enemy or our greatest ally, it’s all about choice. Make the choice to accept your own flaws and love on yourself. What good qualities do you have? You may have gorgeous eyes, full beautiful lips, a heavenly singing voice, or fantastic art skills. Please don’t tell me you don’t have good qualities. Don’t believe me? Ask a friend! Now take the time to appreciate all your wonderful unique traits and work on criticizing yourself less. There is nothing wrong or arrogant about feeling good about yourself and having confidence.

Practice forgiveness

Bitterness and grudges can eat you from the inside out. Not only can the bitterness manifest itself as a disease, but you are giving power to the one that hurt you. It is time to practice forgiveness and let it go. Whatever grudges you may be holding against someone(s), please let it go now. Take your power back because they don’t deserve it.

I hope these tips will help you on your journey to living a happier life. Do you have any more tips you’d like to add? Let me know in the comments below. ♥
